Easy Trail: Valle dei Mulini

Valley of the Mills

A short and accessible hike for everyone, leading you through an ancient valley filled with the ruins of old watermills and lush greenery. The Valley of the Mills is a magical place, a hidden green gem in the heart of Amalfi. Its humid and thriving atmosphere, combined with the remains of the old mills, creates a truly unique and evocative setting.

As you walk, try to spot the remains of hydraulic wheels, channels, and basins once used for papermaking. Imagine the constant hum of water as master papermakers worked tirelessly. Take your time—you don’t want to miss the diverse fern species and the incredible biodiversity surrounding you.

Extra Tip:

If you have a little more time, stop by the Paper Museum to deepen your knowledge of Amalfi’s papermaking history and admire the ancient tools used by master artisans.

Enjoy your adventure!

Moderate Trail: Circuito Pogerola

Pogerola Circuit

Let’s start with Pogerola, a charming hamlet of Amalfi, perched on the hills of Monte Falconcello. This trail lets you discover a more authentic side of Amalfi, passing through ancient villages, chestnut forests, and scenic landscapes, with breathtaking views over the Valley of the Mills and the surrounding towns.

The 8 km circular route from Pogerola leads through Pigellula and San Michele Arcangelo, an abandoned church with a Greek cross layout. From here, you’ll enter the chestnut forests of Amalfi near Tavernate, walking past ancient monastery ruins, reaching the Acquolella spring, and finally ascending to the highest viewpoint before descending toward Madonna dei Fuondi.

The loop concludes at Piazza Amodio in Pogerola, where the aroma of traditional cuisine will surely tempt you to stop for a meal at one of the authentic trattorias, restaurants, or cozy cafés.

For those who need to digest their lunch, you can return to Amalfi via a scenic 2 km downhill staircase along Via Nuova, a pleasant 30-minute walk through nature leading straight to the town center.

Your day isn’t over yet! After your hike, reward yourself with some well-deserved relaxation on the beach—a refreshing swim will rejuvenate you and get you ready for your next adventure!

Expert Trail: Sentiero degli Dei

Path of the Gods

This, my friends, is the most famous—but also the most challenging—hiking trail on the Amalfi Coast!

While it offers breathtaking panoramic views, it also demands good physical preparation. Given the long distance, packing a picnic lunch to enjoy along the way is essential.

Let’s take a closer look…

The trail starts in Bomerano, a hamlet of Agerola located at 650 meters above sea level. To get there from Amalfi, you can take the "Sita" bus, which departs from Flavio Gioia Square.

Once you arrive in Bomerano, simply follow the signs leading to the trailhead.

Your journey begins immersed in nature, with spectacular views of the Amalfi Coast and the Li Galli islands. Along the way, you’ll notice white and red markers left by the CAI (Italian Alpine Club) to help guide your path—so you can’t get lost (except in the beauty of nature!). The trail ends in Nocelle, a picturesque hamlet of Positano, home to only 150 residents. From here, you can reach Positano’s town center by descending a 1,500-step staircase, followed by a 500-meter walk. We completely understand if you prefer to skip the long stairway and instead take Positano’s local shuttle bus! Once in Positano, head to the beach and port to catch a ferry back to Amalfi. As you sail, you’ll have one last chance to admire the coastline—but this time, from the perspective of the sea, reflecting on the incredible experience you just lived.

After such an adventure, what better way to unwind than with a refreshing swim?
