When to visit Pompeii

How to reach Pompeii

Getting to Pompeii is easy thanks to its central location.

If you are traveling by car, take the A3 Naples–Salerno motorway and exit at Pompeii West or Pompeii East. Driving gives you flexibility, especially if you plan to visit Mount Vesuvius or the Amalfi Coast, but in high season traffic and parking can be challenging.

The most convenient option is the Circumvesuviana train, which connects Naples, Sorrento, and Herculaneum directly to Pompeii. The stop “Pompei Scavi” is located right in front of the main archaeological entrance.

You can also reach Pompeii by bus, but the train remains the fastest and most reliable way.

In the summer months, many travelers also combine sea travel and land transport, arriving at ports in the Bay of Naples and continuing by train or private transfer.
