Pompeii
Culture, History. Nature. Shopping.
Holiday in Pompeii
Pompeii is not just a place you visit, it is a place you walk through with emotion.
Set at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, between Naples and the Sorrento Coast, Pompeii preserves one of the most extraordinary chapters of human history. Its streets, homes, and squares still tell the story of everyday Roman life, frozen in time by the eruption of 79 AD.
This is not a closed museum, but a real ancient city made of streets, shops, villas, frescoes, and gardens. Pompeii surprises visitors with its emotional power: every wall holds a story, every stone remembers a step, every silence carries a voice from the past.
It is a one-of-a-kind destination, where culture, beauty, and wonder come together, and it is also the perfect base to explore Mount Vesuvius, the Bay of Naples, and the Sorrento Peninsula.
To the question, “Why choose Pompeii?”
I will try to answer by trying to describe Pompeii to you. What does Pompeii have?
Past preserved in stone: Pompeii is a city frozen in time, where everyday Roman life is still visible in streets, homes, and squares.
Open-air museum: Walking through Pompeii feels like exploring the world’s largest archaeological park under the open sky.
Mount Vesuvius: The volcano that destroyed the city now stands as a dramatic backdrop, reminding visitors of nature’s power.
People’s lives: From bakeries to bathhouses, Pompeii reveals the real lives, habits, and stories of ancient Romans.
Extraordinary ruins: Villas, frescoes, temples, and theatres remain astonishingly well preserved after nearly two thousand years.
Immersive experience: Every step through Pompeii feels like stepping into a living history book.
Icon of world heritage: Pompeii is one of the most important archaeological sites on the planet, recognized and admired worldwide.
When to visit Pompeii
Pompeii can be visited year-round, but the best seasons are spring and autumn, when the climate makes the experience more comfortable and enjoyable.
Here’s why:
- Ideal temperatures for walking through the ruins.
- Fewer crowds compared to July and August.
- Beautiful natural light to admire architecture and frescoes.
- A more authentic atmosphere, with less rush and noise.
Summer is the most popular season, lively and vibrant, with extended opening hours, but also more visitors.
How to reach Pompeii
Getting to Pompeii is easy thanks to its central location.
If you are traveling by car, take the A3 Naples–Salerno motorway and exit at Pompeii West or Pompeii East. Driving gives you flexibility, especially if you plan to visit Mount Vesuvius or the Amalfi Coast, but in high season traffic and parking can be challenging.
The most convenient option is the Circumvesuviana train, which connects Naples, Sorrento, and Herculaneum directly to Pompeii. The stop “Pompei Scavi” is located right in front of the main archaeological entrance.
You can also reach Pompeii by bus, but the train remains the fastest and most reliable way.
In the summer months, many travelers also combine sea travel and land transport, arriving at ports in the Bay of Naples and continuing by train or private transfer.
