Procida Adventure: three hiking trails for true explorers...

Procida, the smallest island in the Gulf of Naples, is a microcosm of volcanic craters, dramatic cliffs, and fragrant citrus groves. Walking here means stepping into an authentic land that preserves traces of its geological past and the slow rhythm of its fishing villages.

We’ve selected three hiking routes, from the easiest to the most challenging, to let you experience Procida through the eyes of an adventurer.

From Marina Grande to Marina di Corricella

Easy Trail
Duration about 1 hour
Suitable for everyone

A short but iconic walk: starting from Marina Grande, the island’s lively harbor, the trail climbs through artisan shops and narrow lanes up to Piazza dei Martiri, dominated by the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie Incoronata. From here, the view opens over the Chiaia Bay and the pastel-colored houses of Corricella.

Descending along scenic stairways, you’ll reach Marina di Corricella, the most photographed fishing village in the Mediterranean. The houses appear stacked one on top of the other, painted in hues of yellow, pink, and green. An easy trail, perfect even for families with kids.

Extra Tip: Don’t miss a refreshing lemon granita – the island’s symbol – and turn the walk into a fun “color hunt” for the little ones.

From Centane to Marina di Chiaiolella

Moderate Trail
Duration is about 2.5 hours
A panoramic and cultural trek, for those who love walking through nature and history.

This trail blends coastal panoramas with wild nature. From Centane, follow the Chiaiolella seafront with spectacular views of Ischia and the tiny island of Vivara, an ancient volcanic crater now a protected nature reserve. Crossing the bridge to Vivara feels like entering another world: shaded paths, silence broken only by the wind and birdsong, and archaeological remains telling stories of prehistoric settlements. The loop ends at Marina di Chiaiolella, the most social corner of the island: Ciraccio’s long sandy beach, colorful boats in the small harbor, and lively seaside cafés.

Extra Tip: Legend says these waters were once home to the sirens who tried to lure Ulysses. Keep your eyes (and imagination) open!

Loop from Olmo to Marina di Procida

Expert Trail
Duration is about 3 h 20 min
A mountain trail, for those who seek adventure and breathtaking views

A complete adventure across the island’s heart. From the village of Olmo, the path touches volcanic ridges, including Solchiaro, a promontory offering unforgettable views of Capri, Ischia, and Mount Vesuvius. Continue through vineyards and citrus groves to Punta Serra, where the panorama embraces the rugged coastline and the Li Galli islets. The trail alternates between rural paths and breathtaking marine views, before descending back to Marina Grande. This hike reveals Procida’s most authentic and untamed side: fossil craters, wind-sculpted cliffs, and hidden corners far from the crowds. It requires good fitness, but rewards you with a complete journey across the island.

Useful tips:

  • Bring plenty of water, a packed lunch, and a sun hat.
  • Sturdy hiking shoes with good grip are essential: some sections can be slippery.
  • The trail is not suitable for small children, but it’s perfect for those seeking a truly spiritual and scenic experience. If you stop at Solchiaro, take a moment to pause and listen to nothing but the sound of the sea and the wind.

Why choose Procida for your hiking adventure?

Because every trail here is a meeting point of geology, tradition, and endless horizons.
A volcanic jewel where adventurers always find their path, whether it’s a slow wander through fishing villages or a demanding trek across craters and headlands.
