Holiday in Acciaroli
Acciaroli is not just a fishing village: it is a place steeped in authenticity, where time slows down and the sea seems to have been painted to invite you to unwind.
This small gem of the Cilento coast, with its colorful little harbor and stone houses overlooking the beach, enchants everyone who sets foot here. Its crystal-clear waters, awarded the Blue Flag year after year, its flower-filled alleys, and its cuisine based on freshly caught fish and local olive oil tell the story of a community that still lives at a human pace.
Here you won’t find the chaos of mass tourism: in Acciaroli everything speaks of peace, genuineness, and a beauty that doesn’t need to be flaunted. It’s no coincidence that even Ernest Hemingway was captivated by this village, choosing it as a retreat for inspiration.
And there is another detail that makes it truly unique: the extraordinary longevity of its inhabitants, studied by researchers from all over the world. A lifestyle made of Mediterranean diet, daily walks, clean air, and sincere relationships seems to hold the secret to a long and serene life.

When to Visit Acciaroli
There isn’t really a single “best time” to visit, everything depends on the type of holiday you’re looking for. However, spring and early autumn are especially recommended.
Here's why:
- Perfect temperatures: warm but never too hot, ideal for swimming and leisurely walks.
- Lush nature: in spring, Cilento bursts into color with broom and wildflowers.
- Fewer crowds: compared to July and August, the beaches and alleys are far more peaceful.
- Authenticity: local events, food festivals, and patron celebrations let you experience the true soul of the village.
How to reach Acciaroli
Reaching Acciaroli is not difficult, but as with many small authentic villages, it takes a little more planning compared to larger tourist hubs. And that’s exactly what makes it so charming.
Here are the main transport options, with pros and cons for each.
- If you’re traveling by car, from Salerno you can take the A2 motorway to Battipaglia, continue along the SS18 Tirrena Inferiore towards Vallo della Lucania, and then follow the signs down to the coast. In about an hour and a half to two hours, you’ll arrive in Acciaroli. Driving gives you complete freedom to set your own pace and stop at other towns along the way. Just keep in mind that during peak summer months, traffic can be heavy and parking spots limited and pricey.
- For those who prefer to travel without the stress of driving, there are buses running seasonally from Salerno and Naples, operated by Busitalia and private companies.
It’s an economical and convenient choice, though journey times are longer and services less frequent. - Another option is combining train and bus. The closest railway station is Vallo della Lucania-Castelnuovo, on the Naples–Reggio Calabria line. From there, local buses take you to Acciaroli in about 40 minutes.
This is a practical solution for travelers coming from Naples or Rome, though you’ll need to plan according to bus timetables. - And then there’s the most scenic way: by sea.
In summer, the Metrò del Mare connects Acciaroli by hydrofoil to Salerno, Amalfi, and Capri.
The journey itself becomes part of the holiday, with breathtaking views of the Cilento coastline.
The only drawback? It’s a seasonal service and may be canceled if the sea is rough.
