Holiday in Camerota
Camerota is not just a seaside destination: it’s a village that embodies the true Mediterranean spirit, suspended between sea and mountains, where unspoiled nature meets centuries of history. Nestled in the Cilento National Park, Camerota includes the medieval hilltop village surrounded by olive groves and its coastal hamlets, most famously Marina di Camerota, known as the “Pearl of Cilento.”
Its charm lies in this dual identity: on one side, the historic center with stone-paved alleys, ancient churches, and traditional leather craftsmanship; on the other, one of Italy’s most stunning coastlines, with golden beaches, hidden coves, sea caves, and crystal-clear waters that have earned the Blue Flag award.
In Camerota you can spend your days relaxing by the sea, taking boat trips, diving into turquoise waters, or hiking along panoramic trails. And in the evening, the scent of freshly caught fish and authentic Cilento recipes will accompany you through the village trattorias and the marina.
To the question “why choose Camerota ?”
I will try to answer by trying to describe Camerota to you. What does Camerota have?

When visiting Camerota
Camerota is beautiful year-round, but the best times to truly enjoy its treasures are spring and early autumn.
Here's why:
- Ideal climate: mild temperatures perfect for both the sea and outdoor activities.
- Lush nature: in spring, the park’s trails burst into bloom, creating postcard-perfect scenery.
- Peaceful beaches: away from the summer crowds, coves and beaches are much more enjoyable.
- Authenticity: local festivals and traditional events reveal the village’s genuine soul.
For those seeking lively nightlife and a bustling atmosphere, July and August are the busiest months, when Marina di Camerota comes alive with music, events, and seaside fun.
How to reach Camerota
Camerota is located in the southernmost part of Cilento, slightly more secluded than other coastal towns.
And it’s precisely this position that makes it so authentic and special, away from the busiest routes and surrounded by unspoiled landscapes.
- For those traveling by car, the route from Salerno is straightforward: take the A2 motorway to Battipaglia, continue on the SS18, and exit at Poderia. From there, a short drive leads directly to Marina di Camerota. The journey takes around two and a half hours. Driving allows you to explore at your own pace, stopping in nearby villages along the way, but keep in mind that in summer traffic can be heavy and parking not always easy to find.
- Another convenient option is the train. The nearest station is Pisciotta-Palinuro, on the Naples–Reggio Calabria line. From there, buses and shuttles reach Camerota and Marina di Camerota in about 30 minutes. It’s a practical solution for those coming from Naples or Rome, though it does require a transfer and slightly longer travel times.
- If you prefer a direct option, buses operated by Busitalia and private companies connect Camerota with Salerno and Naples, especially during the summer months. This is an affordable choice, but inevitably slower and subject to traffic conditions.
- Finally, in the summer, the most scenic way to arrive is by sea. With the Metrò del Mare connections, Camerota is linked to Salerno, Amalfi, Capri, and other towns along the Amalfi Coast and Cilento.
Arriving by boat offers breathtaking views of coves and cliffs that look as though they were carved to impress. The only drawback is that the service is seasonal and depends on sea conditions.
