How to get to Sorrento

Getting to Sorrento is quite simple, thanks to its strategic position in the Sorrento Peninsula.

Here are the main transport options, with pros and cons for each.

- By train, the Circumvesuviana service is available from Naples, the journey takes about 1h 10min. although the cost is cheap, usually about €4 per person. This is certainly the cheapest solution and with frequent trips (about every 30 minutes) that allows you to reach the center of Sorrento directly. However, trains are often crowded, especially in summer and above all not very comfortable and without air conditioning, without considering the possible delays. I could recommend it only for those traveling on a low budget and not in a hurry.

By car, the direction to take is very simple from Naples or Salerno via Autostrada A3 Napoli-Salerno → Exit Castellammare → SS145 for Sorrento (about 1h 15min). Of course, with a car you have maximum freedom of timetables and intermediate stops, the possibility of exploring the Amalfi Coast independently but you have to keep in mind that the roads are narrow and busy, especially in summer, parking is difficult to find and very expensive (up to €30/day) and finally the ZTL (Limited Traffic Zones) in the center of Sorrento.

- By hydrofoil or ferry, the service is available from Naples, more precisely from Molo Beverello, which takes about 40 minutes to reach the port of Sorrento at an average cost of around €15-20 per person. With this means of transport, the journey is quick and pleasant, with a view of the Gulf of Naples.
No traffic problems. and the arrival directly at the port of Sorrento, near the center, lower than the city: it is necessary to climb a staircase or take an elevator. A setback can be the rough sea that causes the cancellation of the trips.

In any case, the ferry or hydrofoil remains the ideal means of transport for those who want a comfortable and scenic journey.
